O.N.T. "Brilliant", 1 ball. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10. A
small heart-shaped pin cushion. 1/2 yd. ribbon, 5/8 inch wide.
- 1st
row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each of next 5 ch, ch 3, s c in
same ch where last s c was made, s c in each of next 5 ch. Ch 1, turn.
- 2nd
to 11th rows incl: 2 s c in 1st s c (an increase), s c in each s c
across to within ch-3 loop; in ch-3 loop make s c, ch 3, s c (2 more
increases); s c in each s c across to within last s c, 2 s c in last s
c (another increase). Ch 1, turn.
- 12th row: Same as 11th row, but omit increases at both ends of row. Ch 1, turn. 13th row: Same as 11th row.
- 14th to 21st rows incl: Repeat 12th and 13th rows alternately.
- 22nd
to 27th rows incl: Same as 12th row, but dec. 1 s c at both ends of row
(to dec. 1 s c, work off 2 s c as 1 s c). Ch 1, turn.
- 28th to 32nd rows incl: Same as 27th row, but dec. 2 s c (instead of 1 s c) at both ends of each row.
Hereafter work is done in Rounds instead of rows, as follows:
- 1st Round: S c closely together around to within ch-3 loop, sl st in loop.
- 2nd
Round: Ch 5 (to count as d c and ch-2), d c in loop, * ch 2. skip 1 s
c, d c in next s c. Repeat from * around, ending Round with ch 2, sl st
in 3rd st of ch-5 first made.
- 3rd Round: 3 sc in each sp around.
- 4th Round: S c in each s c around. Join with sl st.
- 5th
Round: Ch 7 (to count as dtr and ch-2), *skip 1 s c, d tr in next s c,
ch 2. Repeat from * to within 5 s c from center top s c, ch 2, skip 1 s
c, tr in next s c, skip 1 s c, d c in next s c, skip 1 s c, s c in
center top s c (thus completing half of Round). Work other half of
Round to correspond, joining last ch-2 with sl st to 5th st of ch-7
first made.
- 6th
Round: * S c in next sp; in next sp make 5 d c with ch-1 between each d
c; s c in next sp (1 shell made). Repeat from * around. Join with sl
st. Fasten and break off.
Underside: Attach thread to any s c between d c's (on 1st row of spaces).

Round: Ch 5 (to count as d c and ch-2), * d c in s c between next 2 d
c's, ch 2. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-2 with sl st to 3rd st
of ch-5 first made.
- 2nd
and 3rd Rounds: Sl st to center of 1st sp, ch 4 (to count as d c and
ch-1), d c in next sp, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join, 4th Round: Ch
3, d c in each sp around. Join. 5th Round: * Ch 5, skip 2 d c, s c in
next d c. Repeat from * around. Fasten and break off.
Make
a chain about 12 inches long, and pass it in and out through loops of
last row of underside. Insert cushion, pull chain tight, and tie
securely. Pass ribbon in and out tr-row, making a bow at center top.
This elegant shoe party favor is wonderful for holding tulle filled
with birdseed or a few pieces of hard candy.
